Coyote Linux 2.xx (Floppy Release) Discontinued

I have decided to discontinue official releases of the Coyote Linux Floppy Firewall. My decision to do so has been a long time coming and was a hard one to make. I simply do not have the time nor desire to continue development of a floppy based solution. In fact, I don’t even own a system that has a floppy drive.

I would like to thank all of you that have contributed to Coyote’s development over the years. It would not have been near the success that it is if I had not had help from the many individuals willing to contribute their time and talents to help develop one of the most complete and user-friendly mini-distributions of Linux.

Anyone wishing to continue working on Coyote is welcome to do so, but will need to change the name of their distribution. In addition, I must remind the community that the Windows Wizard is not (and never has been) covered under the GNU public license and may not be redistributed in any modified form.

Finally, please do not email me asking me to keep the project open. I have given this decision a lot of thought and it is final.

Site Upgrade

The Coyote Linux web site has been upgraded from PHP Nuke 6.0 to 6.9. While very little should be visibly different, some areas of the site may function differently or may be broken. If you notice a problem with this site, please report it to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Web Services Moved

The sites www.coyotelinux.com, www.vortech.net, secure.vortech.net, update.coyotelinux.com, time.vortech.net, and downloads.vortech.net (the various sites that make up the Coyote Linux and Vortech Consulting Internet services) have been moved to a new location and onto new hardware. The new location has a much faster Internet connection and the hardware itself is almost twice as fast. If you happen to run across a portion of the site that it not functioning properly, please email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. Coyote Linux 2.02 and Wizard 2.2.3 are available

Coyote Linux 2.02 and the associated wizard are available for download. This release fixes some small bugs in the port-forwarding code, adds new menu options to edit the port-forwarding and masquerading scripts to the command line menu, and has a new version of the SSH server to fix a security problem present in the old version. Anyone using Coyote Linux 2.x is strongly encouraged to upgrade to this release.

Information

Coyote Linux is a security-centric mini-distribution of Linux designed specifically to function as a network edge firewall and VPN server. Developed by Vortech Consulting, LLC, Coyote is tailored for users who prioritize safety and efficiency in their home networks while preferring a simplistic and minimal solution.

Originally launched in 1999 during an era when consumer internet routers were non-existent, Coyote Linux emerged from the need for effective internet sharing across home and small business networks.
